Profile Information

Are you a member of a current BPSA group? If so, which?
I'm the acting Chief Commissioner for the Baden-Powell Scouting Association, US. I'm also the Scoutmaster for a local BPSA Scout group, the 10th Daniel Boone Scout Group, in Washington, MO.

I live in Washington, MO along with my wife Angie, and five children Vivian (3), Liza (5), Luke (6), Bella (11), Jude (12). I'm a software engineer in my full-time job and in my spare time as well.

I am fluent (mostly) in American Sign Language, as my youngest daughter is unilaterally deaf (deaf in one ear), so we sign and speak with her around the home. I'm active in a local ASL meetup and with the Deaf Community as well.

I have a number of hobbies, including art/comics/drawing, chess, hockey and various other things that catch my interest.
Are you interested in starting a new BPSA group?
I'm the GSM for the 10th Daniel Boone Scout Group
Any previous scouting background?
Oh my, yes.
Previous BSA Scouting includes Eagle Scout, Asst. Scoutmaster, Den Leader, Cub Master, Unit Commissioner (inner city troops), Asst. Program Director at 2 BSA Summer Camps and OA member/advisor for a period.

No other independent or traditional experience other than my 3+ years with the BPSA in the US.

Hi David,

I just learned that one of my application references has been laid off from his employment. I had submitted his work number which is no longer valid. Here is his cell number instead:

Kirk Tollefson -- (360) 929-8592

I believe he will be part of the Group I intend to start here in Mount Vernon, also.

Hello David,

My name is John Krejcha and I am new to the BPSA. I do not have scout in the program but I work for non-profit in Vancouver, WA called Autism Empowerment.

We have the only national Autism and Scouting Program to support all scouting programs around the US and the World.

We are not connected to any one scouting group. As such our aim is to help scouts who are on the Autism Spectrum get the full access to their scouting journey, help support parents in the support of their scouts and support scout leaders when working with scouts who are on the Autism Spectrum.

We would like to work with the BPSA to provide support to  your group and your leaders and most importantly the scouts in your group that are on the Autism Spectrum.

We invite you and your leaders to come and like us on Facebook at

We currently are supporting leaders/parents/scouts in over 45 nations.

We would also like to let you know that we will be producing Autism and Scouting Leadership Kits in the September time frame which will be sent to units around the US at no cost to them. We would love to include your group in the project. We currently have people from the BSA, Girl Scouts, Campfire USA, Scouts Canada and Joey Scouts (Australia) working on the project. They are all sending in 1 - 3 minute video's of scouts on the spectrum talking about what scouting means to them. We are working on more Grant funding to produce more kits.

In addition, we do have a Autism and Scouting Radio show and would like to have somebody from your group come on and talk about how your group currently works with youth on the Autism Spectrum or if you have any scouts you know of that are on the spectrum come on and talk how the BPSA has helped them.

You can contact me directly at john@autismempowerment.org  or if you would like to talk on the phone on we can work together my cell phone is 360-601-4678.

Let me know how we can help you out and how we can work together.

John Krejcha

Hi David - like Heather, I'd also appreciate a copy of the PowerPoint presentation. If its convenient, you could post it on my discussion, "outreach materials for orientation/information meetings."

Hi! Jeff Kopp tells me that you have a PowerPoint presentation that would be good to show at the DC-area interest-gauging get-together I'm planning. May I please have access to it? Thanks, Heather

Hi David.

I wouldn't get too excited about my web experience. I'm no guru. I'm a java enterprise application developer, which does typically involve web work, but in a somewhat different way than a public facing site like bpsa. I can manage html/css/javascript pretty well and I know my way around an http server. Let me know what you're looking for and I'll let you know what I can do. If it's just brute time you're looking for, I've got that. You can call me at 314-727-6404 (home) or 314-556-8808 (cell) or carlbacher@gmail.com.

Thx, Carl

Thanks, David

Eau Claire is pretty far away from Milwaukee, but I would be interested in helping with a BPSA group here in the future.  Right now, my oldest child is only two.

David- Another addition to base camp! Congrats. I am interested to exploring the possibility of starting a Group in So Az. But without Brown Sea Training I lack the BPSA credentials. Traveling to TX is not a possibility.
