Northeast Moot - July 24th-26th at Cheesequake State Park, NJ at Cheesequake State Park

July 24, 2015 at 6pm to July 26, 2015 at 12pm
5th Brooklyn is excited to host this year's gathering of BPSA groups in the Northeast. Last year's inaugural Moot was a lot of fun and we'd like to build on that with a bigger and better event in 2015. We're planning a full weekend of learning, fellowship and fun. Please sign up if you're interested in attending and join our planning and programming committees.See More

Dennis J. Clarke replied to Clarke Green's discussion BPSA-BSA running in parallel? in the group Northeast Region
"We created our Rover Crew so that BSA Scouters could have fun like the youth. (Since BSA's idea of adults is only to be leaders and help kids succeed without ever considering the needs of adults.) We camp, canoe, hike, backpack, picnic, etc…"

Jeff Kopp replied to Clarke Green's discussion BPSA-BSA running in parallel? in the group Northeast Region
"Oh, not exactly. In fact, WOSM organizations basically look down on WFIS traditional scouting orgs such as ours (obviously this isn't the same the other way around, but it is a reality that we need to remember). Read this for further…"

Joe Jurain replied to Clarke Green's discussion BPSA-BSA running in parallel? in the group Northeast Region
"I agree the idea of scouting gets effected by adults like you stated and more due to politics effecting it. Scouts are Scouts no matter where they live or what uniform they wear.  It really should be a global programing for all youth and just…"

Clarke Green replied to Clarke Green's discussion BPSA-BSA running in parallel? in the group Northeast Region
"I'd be happy to have every child in our community who is interested in Scouting get the best experience possible. What I am looking for is a way to have Scouting without the tribalism of organizations. That means girls, boys, and adults of…"

Jeff Kopp replied to Clarke Green's discussion BPSA-BSA running in parallel? in the group Northeast Region
"The BPSA is also a coed organization, with a large portion (possibly even a majority) being girls. So to do something where you're trying to include BPSA and BSA might also be seen as being particular UNfriendly to girls, unless you also decide…"

I was recently invited to help form a marketing committee for our Scout Council.

Like most of the 277 individual local councils that make up the Boy Scouts of America we are alarmed at a sharp downturn in interest and dwindling recruiting numbers in the communities we serve.
