You are cordially invited to attend the Sierra Brownsea Training Camp (BTC) on August 18th* - 20th, 2017 at Silvertip Group Site on Jackson Meadows Reservoir, in the amazing Sierra Buttes area above Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe, in the High Sierra. Thoughts of my father

Posted on October 16, 2014 at 2:04am 1 Comment

My father earned his Eagle Scout in 1928 at the age of 15 1/2. He was a high school dropout, the oldest of eight living children in rural Arizona, and the 'man of the house' since his father died when he was 14, but he made Eagle.

When I joined BSA fifty years later, he often said, "I've forgotten more about scouting than you're going to learn." Now that I've looked back and read the original books and program, I know how right he was.

The scouting spirit he instilled in me may…

BPSA in Sacramento, CA

Posted on June 25, 2014 at 1:40am 3 Comments

I contacted everyone on ScoutFinder in the Sacramento metropolitan area and got some positive responses. I sent out an invitation to meet up at one of our city parks next Wednesday.

I'm nervous as all get-out, but I think it's time to see what we can do.

Wish me luck!

Hello David, I'm that guy, Winton 1982, I wrote "Wilderness Survival- the Merit Badge of Champions" inside the green program box. I taught Pioneering and WS that summer, and got every WS Scout to get fire with their own bowdrill set.

Do you think there'd be enough interest in the Sacramento area to get a BPSA scout group chartered there?

Hi David, welcome aboard!

You can definitely purchase the handbooks, although you might want to wait and just download a copy.  Once your membership is processed, you can buy the basic patches and such and buy handbooks then (only having to pay shipping once that way).

Yours in Scouting,

-Scott Moore
