Oregon BTC at Oxbow Regional Park

September 29, 2017 at 9am to October 1, 2017 at 1pm
Named after the very first scout camp on England's Brownsea Island, Brownsea Training Camp (BTC) is the basic leader/Rover scout training for the Baden-Powell Service Association. When you attend a BTC weekend, you will come away with important information regarding what traditional scouting is all about, how to lead a scouting program and keep youth in your charge safe. At the same time, BTC is a really fun experience in its own right, and most participants can easily pass their tenderfoot…See More

Thank you for the welcome! I am reading Scouting for Boys now. I am impressed by the original ideals of scouting...service...outdoor fun. And I am especially liking the inclusiveness of this Association. I am definitely interested in doing the Brownsea Training.

Since we are living overseas, Brownsea Island is now on my radar! We move back to Vermont in a few years (Northeast region has 77 members) and I see a future in BPSA there.

We are in Germany. How/where/when could I do the Brownsea training?

Thank you for the welcome! I wish I could make BTC, but I think we'll still be at-sea during that. My ship, USS Somerset, is currently deployed to the 5th Fleet. Gives me plenty of time to learn the Oath, Laws, and Promise, and to work on my knots!

Thanks for the greeting, Ethan! Evan (my husband) and I are so excited about BPSA. We have 3 daughters and have been involved in a Colfax GS troop for 3 years, but we  are not happy with the corporate red tape, cookie sales, prejudices, and difficulty for my husband being involved in things! The same sad tale from many who make that exodus, I'm sure. Anyway, our intent is to definitely start a BPSA group  in this area. We already have some friends interested. I haven't processed the charter yet because we haven't  decided on a name! We do have enough to start out. We are seriously considering the Oregon BTC this fall as well. Evan is from Seattle originally, so any chance we have to get up north is welcomed by us all. I'll keep you posted on that. I've ordered some books already, and will start on the GSM Start-up Guide you sent me as well. We are so excited to be scouting WITH the kids! We watched Moonrise Kingdom again as another way to inspire ourselves. ;o)

TRAIL MAGIC

Posted on October 15, 2013 at 6:00pm 1 Comment

Trail magic: It’s what happens when kind-hearted people extend unsolicited acts of generosity to bedraggled long-distance hikers.

The 55th has begun a tradition of finding a campsite along our nearest long trail (which for us is the Pacific Crest Trail) and having our scouts (who become "trail angels" in long-distance hiking parlance) come up with and execute their idea for a service to hikers.

Our first year saw scouts…
