Marijuana and other drugs

I am not sure if the topic has ever come up but I know that tobacco and alcohol are prohibited at Scouting events, how about other substances?  With so many states having medical marijuana, and some recreational, I could see this as a question some units might run into.  Being under the influence of any substance is an issue if working with kids, even if it is prescription drugs.  However, some people use marijuana for daily medication.  My daughter could get a script for it for her seizures.…See More

Profile Information

Are you a member of a current BPSA group? If so, which?
I served in the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force. My wife and I homeschool our three kids and are very active with local homeschool families. We are both in school ourselves working on counseling degrees. We love the outdoors and Scouting but have been disillusioned with the Girl Scouts and the BSA. We are looking forward to joining the BPSA.
Are you interested in starting a new BPSA group?
I will be the Scoutmaster for a new unit here in Spokane, WA. Our group name is the 33rd Pioneer Scout Group.
Any previous scouting background?
About 3 years as a BSA leader

Still an eager beaver.

I have been assured of the number and name for our Scout Group but it has not been made "official."  We will be having our first meeting here soon and I know it takes time but I would like to start registering folks and be ready to uniform our Rover Scouters as they are invested.  Anyone have any idea how long it takes?  Can I at least order our group patches from the quartermaster?

Uniform colors.

I am very new to the BPSA and I am still learning the ins and outs.  I do wonder, why do the TWs and the PFs both have grey colored shirts?  I totally understand not wearing tan and dark blue but both groups in grey?  How about a brown?  Or even a different color green?  The grey for TWs makes sense.

Ok, I know I just requested my charter for a Scout group herein Spokane only 5 days ago but I feel like a kid at Christmas.  It seems it will never get here!  I have set up a meeting with some interested families already and have been getting the info I need to pass on to them the awesomeness of the BPSA and Scouting in general.  The thing I am most excited about though is being a Scout myself!  I was never allowed to be a Scout because of some of the exclusiveness of the BSA that my dad and…

Spreading the game of Scouting

Posted on October 7, 2013 at 1:40am 0 Comments

I finally found a Scout group that my whole family can be a part of and that does actual Scouting!  We live in Spokane Washington and homeschool our three kids.  Our family is part of a large network of homeschool families and they have been looking for the same thing.  We have had a good response.  I look forward to cataloging our adventure with Scouting with everyone.

Welcome to Base Camp, Joe! Great to see that you're applying for a group in Spokane. I've been hoping we'd get a group going up that way. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm here to help!
