Service

Posted on November 7, 2012 at 2:00pm 1 Comment

In answering the following e-mail question, I did some research into our various reference materials. Here's what I found (the italics are my own):

Why do you call yourselves the "Service" association when you don't seem to have any emphasis on service? One of your documents specifically points out that there's no service requirement. It seems like a big lack.

My answer:

Service is integral to Traditional Scouting. We base our program on…

Let the Training Begin...

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 11:37am 3 Comments

I had a long phone conversation with David, our Commissioner, about planning and coordinating our upcoming Brownseas. I can feel the stress starting to build. I know we both want to 'do our best' and I'm really looking forward to assisting and then presenting this material to our new members.

We also discussed developing our own Woods Beads trainers, and I have committed to doing whatever it takes to get that going, even if it means getting a passport (finally) and travelling to…

A new Group in Texas?

Posted on August 7, 2012 at 12:30pm 15 Comments

I think it's about time I stepped up and formed a Group of my own. I talked with Scotty and Susie, and told them to recruit just one friend each and we would start up a Pathfinder and/or Timberwolf section and start having meetings and lots more campouts. I pulled out all the stops and really talked up shooting, camping, hiking, archery, canoeing, sailing, etc. Scotty and I finally agreed to discuss it with one of his best friends who just happens to be coming to our house tomorrow for a…

Re-Dedication to Traditional Scouting

Posted on August 6, 2012 at 1:29pm 1 Comment

I can't put it off any longer. I need to get back to Rovering. My first Brownsea as the Instructor is approaching fast, and I need to get back up to speed. Scotty will help out with the Brownsea, of course, but we haven't been doing much Scouting ourselves lately. And, at the moment, we're in the middle of a bathroom remodel that needs to be finished before school starts back up.

We'll see how successful I am in keeping all the promises that I was about to write down here. Perhaps…

Hi Scott,

I know you're a busy fellow and I truly appreciate your commitment to maintaining the Quartermaster Store. I know it's a big job.

I just wanted to give you a heads-up. We've just started the 425th Skagit in Mount Vernon, WA and we will shortly need group flashes -- at least a dozen to start and hopefully many more in the near future. I'm also compiling another order for items you should have on hand already for my new members for later today or tomorrow.

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say. I believe our charter is only awaiting background checks for my Rovers.
